    What a Faraday bag does

    The principle comes from the Faraday cage. A conductive layer encloses the device and blocks electromagnetic fields in both directions. The device inside transmits nothing and receives nothing. It cannot be located, contacted or read out.

    Every radio connection is blocked at once: mobile (GSM, LTE, 5G), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, as well as RFID and NFC. The condition is that the bag is fully closed.

    Why physical shielding, not just software

    A software setting such as airplane mode switches off radio modules, but it can be undermined by apps or system processes. The GPS receiver stays active, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can be switched back on manually.

    Physical shielding works independently of the state of the device. It works even when permissions are bypassed, when logging happens in the background, or when a security vulnerability exists. A radio signal that has left the device cannot be recalled with a setting.

    Which product for which device

    Smartphone. For confidential conversations, for deliberate unreachability, and against tracking. See Faraday phone cases.

    What matters when choosing

    The closure. The shielding only works when the bag is fully closed. Look for a roll-top or fold-seal closure.

    The material. Cheap products use simple aluminium foil, which creases and degrades over time. Woven conductive materials shield more evenly and last.

    The evidence. Look for tested shielding performance rather than marketing promises. The TOCA No Signal Sleeve line is DEKRA certified, tested to IEEE Std 299-2006.

    When full blocking is too much

    A Faraday bag takes the device completely off the network. If you want to stay reachable while reducing radiation towards your body, directional shielding is the better fit.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Does a Faraday bag really block all signals?
    Yes, when it is fully closed and the shielding is intact. Mobile, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, RFID and NFC are all blocked.
    Which size do I need?
    Size M or L for a smartphone, the KeyFob pouch for a car key, and size XL for a laptop or tablet. What matters is that the bag closes fully over the device.
    Is airplane mode not the same thing?
    No. Airplane mode is a software setting that can be undermined by apps or system processes. A Faraday bag works physically and independently of the software state.
    Does the device work normally afterwards?
    Yes. The shielding is passive and does not alter the device. As soon as you take it out, it reconnects as usual.
