Why a laptop should be shielded in transit
A laptop in sleep mode is not offline. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules stay active, scanning for known networks and broadcasting identifiers as they do. Some machines wake on their own in standby to fetch updates or sync.
In a hotel, in a coworking space or in transit, the device is therefore reachable for hours without you noticing. A Faraday sleeve stops that completely for as long as it is closed.
When it is worth it
Travel and border crossings. The device is completely cut off from radio traffic in transit.
Hotel rooms and coworking. A laptop left in a room stays reachable. Inside a closed sleeve it does not.
Confidential work. When a device demonstrably must not transmit, a power button you have to trust is not enough.
Choosing the right size

Do not forget the camera
A laptop camera cannot be reliably disabled in software. A mechanical cover is the only measure that works independently of the operating system. See the webcam cover.
