    Tested Passive Everyday Ready

Can a phone be tracked in airplane mode?

Yes. Airplane mode switches off the mobile radio, but the GPS receiver stays active. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can be switched back on manually, and many people do. Above all, the Find My network locates your device through Bluetooth signals relayed by other Apple devices nearby. That works even when your phone has no network connection of its own.

Airplane mode is a setting. It is not a guarantee. If you want certainty that a device is not transmitting, you have to stop the signal physically.

What actually happens in your pocket

A smartphone constantly scans for cell towers, Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth devices, even when you are not using it. In poor reception it automatically raises its transmit power. Location data, Wi-Fi identifiers and Bluetooth contacts accumulate in the background.

A Faraday case stops that completely, as long as the device sits closed inside. No signal out, no signal in.

    When to shield your phone

Confidential conversations. Turning the phone face down is not enough if nothing in the room should be listening.

Going deliberately offline. No notifications, no reachability, no location data.

Travel and border crossings. The device stays completely cut off from the network in transit.

Suspicious trackers. An unknown AirTag inside a closed case can neither transmit nor be located. That buys you time to examine it calmly.

Anti-tracking: what software can and cannot do

Restricting permissions, disabling the advertising ID and using location services deliberately are all worthwhile and should be the foundation. Their limit is reached where the radio signal itself is the problem.

Stickers, harmonisers and similar products block no signals. Look for tested shielding performance rather than marketing promises.

How to check your case works

    1. Put the phone inside and close the case completely.
    2. Call it. It should not ring.
    3. Try to locate it via Find My. It should not be findable.

If the device responds to either test, the case is not blocking effectively.

    Staying reachable while still shielding

If you carry your phone on your body all day and want to stay reachable, directional shielding is the better fit. It reduces radiation towards your body without taking the device off the network.

How a Faraday case works technically is explained under signal blocking and Faraday bags.

    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can a phone in a Faraday case be tracked?
No. When the case is fully closed, GPS, mobile, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are all blocked. Neither the Find My network nor cell tower triangulation can reach the device.
    Is airplane mode not enough?
No. The GPS receiver stays active, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can be switched back on manually, and the Find My network locates the device through Bluetooth signals from other devices nearby. That works even without a network connection of its own.
Does an AirTag still work inside the case?
No. An AirTag or comparable tracker can neither transmit nor be located inside a fully closed case.
Which size do I need for my phone?
Size M fits most smartphones. Size L is for larger models and for devices in a thick protective case.
